We are very happy to be joining The Common x Refugee Community Kitchen Takeover in London this October.

For me, this is the kind of gathering that makes sense.

Music brings people together. Food brings people together. Community brings people together.

And when we put all three in the same place, something special can happen.

Music without borders

Coming from Ghana and living and working between different places, I have always understood music as something that does not really care about borders.

You can travel somewhere you have never been before and hear a rhythm that feels familiar.

You can stand next to somebody you have never met, from a completely different background, and dance to the same song.

That is the power of music.

It gives us a way to connect before we even know each other's names.

That is why I am proud for K.O.G Soundsystem to be part of this fundraiser supporting Refugee Community Kitchen.

Food, dignity and community

Refugee Community Kitchen does something very simple and very important - they make sure people who are displaced, seeking refuge or experiencing food insecurity can access a hot meal.

But a meal is never just a meal.

Where I come from, food is community.

You cook for people. You invite people to eat. You sit together. You share what you have.

There is something deeply human about being able to offer somebody a plate of food and say, come and eat.

That spirit of sharing is something I recognise strongly in the work of Refugee Community Kitchen.

Bringing The Common to London

This special event brings The Common from Glastonbury Festival to Fox & Firkin for a day of music, DJs, talks, films and community — all raising money for Refugee Community Kitchen.

K.O.G Soundsystem will be bringing our own flavour to the gathering.

Expect rhythms from Ghana and beyond, Afro-fusion, highlife, Afrobeat, dub, bass and global sounds.

But more than anything, expect people coming together.

Because that is what music should do.

It should make the room bigger.

It should make people move.

It should make strangers feel like friends, even if only for a few hours.

And if we can do that while supporting people who are going through a difficult time, then that is a good reason to make some noise.
